You know those days, where everything just seems to be going wrong. You forgot to put your clothes into the dryer and now they’re all wet, you overcooked breakfast and burnt your tongue on that morning coffee of yours, then you got ready all stressed for that appointment you had at ten because you overslept only to discover, that your appointment wasn’t until later that afternoon and and and. Yeah, today was one of those days for me. Every possible thing that could have gone wrong went wrong this morning. In most cases people would have had they’re first meltdown of the day and I am not going to lie, I wasn’t far away from one. Instead of letting it get to me I remembered something I watched in on of Kalyn Niccholsen’s youtube videos. The Piss-List. I wrote a piss-list. What is a Piss-List you ask? It is very simple actually. A piss-list is a list where you write down everything that pisses you off, hence why “piss-list”. The goal behind this list is to basically channel your energy differently. Instead of getting annoyed and mad at something that won’t matter in a few minutes anymore, you store that energy and use it for something better. We waste energy on all these little stupid things throughout the day and end up fatigued, tired and worn out in the end. A lot of the time we then end up not doing the things that would get us closer to our goals.
So instead of letting those things get to you, you write them down on a piece of paper and later when you need the energy read through your piss-list again, then channel your energy and work it off. This morning for example I really needed to go on a run but I just didn’t want to. I stayed in bed for a lot longer than anticipated and what eventually got me out of bed was my piss-list. It wasn’t my best run but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that I got up and did something to make myself feel great in the end. In my case my Piss-List reminded me of everything I didn’t want to become and how I felt. In the end it was the last little push I needed to get sh*t done.
The power of the Piss-List is to make you go that extra mile! Write down everything annoys you about yourself or whatever happened in the morning or yesterday, whatever it is write it down. This way you’re getting it out of your system and can focus on more important things again. If you feel unmotivated, tired or lazy at some point, go back to the list and remember why you are working on whatever you are. Remember what pissed you off in the first place that got you were you are and use that “anger” as a source of energy and absolutely crush it until you can look at your piss-list and be like “I proved you wrong”.
This might absolutely not be helpful to you but it was to me, so there is a little chance that this is exactly what you need in the moment too. So maybe the next time something pisses you off, try to use this method and see if it works for you. You’ll never know until you try it out for yourself.
Best of Luck,
bye bye, ciao, au revoir, tschüss.
